My consulting is based on over three decades of experience in writing and reviewing NIH grant applications. Most of this experience is in the domain of population health and biomedical sciences which is the primary target audience of this consulting service, and which covers most NIH-type applications.
My research has focused on understanding poor health outcomes in older age, such as dementia, chronic disability and poor quality of life, as well as the health disparities in these outcomes. I have also engaged in studies of clinical populations, including behavioral clinical trials in patients with cardiovascular conditions.
My primary interest has been in understanding the most significant social and psychological determinants of poor health outcomes in older age. Other interests include environmental risk factors and the role of retirement transitions in the health and well-being of older adults.
In my current research, I have taken this experience to develop new studies in low- and middle-income countries, including Lebanon and Nepal where I am studying the risk factors for dementia in these populations.
